End of Season 2008/09
Friday 8th May
With the last Capital League fixture completed this evening the 2008/09 Season has now drawn to a close. A new Webmaster will be appointed by the Club, in due course, and this mirror site will close down. The official AFC Hornchurch website can be found at afchornchurch.com

AFC Hornchurch 6 Harrow Borough 4
Monday 4th May
The Urchins retained the President's Challenge Cup by the narrowest of margins following a thrilling game at Bridge Avenue this afternoon. At the full-time whistle the score was level at 1-1. No extra time was played and the fans were treated to a nail-biting penalty shootout. When the Boro' failed to convert their second penalty kick this gave the Urchins the advantage. All Urchin penalty takers hit the net and it was left to James Stuart-Evans to convert the final kick to keep the Cup at Bridge Avenue.

Sutton United 2 AFC Hornchurch 1
Saturday 25th April
The Urchins narrowly missed out on claiming a play-off place despite another brave team effort against a very determined Sutton. After finishing just two points away from a top five slot the Urchins will rue the home defeats by four of the botton eight teams which undoubtedly cost them dear. Colin and the lads still did us proud this season performing superbly with very limited resources. Whilst missing out on the play-offs is disappointing the fans will remember the glory of the F.A. Cup win away to Weymouth and the shock we gave Peterborough United by taking them to within seconds from a replay. Well done lads - you are all heroes!

AFC Hornchurch 3 Horsham 0
Saturday 18th April
The Mighty Urchins powered to their third home win in six days to move into fourth place and set up a thrilling showdown next Saturday at Sutton. Today's very entertaining game was marred by Kris Lee being stretchered off with an ankle injury in the 34th minute. Three teams are now battling for two play-off places. Carshalton are away to Hendon whilst the Urchins travel to Sutton. It really is too close to call.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Harrow Borough 0
Thursday 16th April
The Urchins moved into the 4th play-off slot after another very professional display against a commited Harrow Borough. The visitors showed great defensive capabilities but the lads continued to press and were rewarded with two fine second half goals. Tonight's result ensures that Saturday's home game versus Horsham will be a thoroughly tense affair.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Harlow Town 1
Monday 13th April
The Urchins avenged their Yuletide defeat at Barrows Farm by hitting three past a very determined Harlow Town. The Hawks battled hard for the points which would ease their relegation fears but it was an equally determined Urchins who took all three. A win in this coming Thursday evening's home game versus Harrow Borough would lift us into fifth place and into a play-off position.

Staines Town 2 AFC Hornchurch 2
Friday 10th April
The footballing gods conspired to rob the battling Urchins of a well fought victory at Wheatsheaf Park this afternoon. After going behind in the 18th minute Dean Green hit the net twice to give the Urchins the lead - a lead which they held until the 91st minute. Then with seconds to go the Swans grabbed a dramatic equaliser. We have little time to ponder what might have been as we move on to Monday's home game versus our nemesis, Harlow Town.

Urchins at Home in Cup Final
Sunday 5th April
The Capital League Urchins will play Harrow Borrough at Bridge Avenue in the Final of the President's Cup on the 4th of May (Bank Holiday Monday), kick-off 3pm. The Urchins are the present Cup holders so will be all out to hang on to the trophy.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Hastings United 2
Saturday 4th April
The Urchins play-off challenge faltered as they were unable to replicate their superb away form here at Bridge Avenue this afternoon. They could have put the game out of reach of their visitors had they taken a few of the hatful of excellent goal scoring chances they created in the first half - but it was not to be. All credit to Hastings who showed dogged determination in the second period and went home with all three points. We now move on to a tricky away fixture versus Staines Town on Good Friday.

Maidstone United 0 AFC Hornchurch 0
Tuesday 31st March
A well-won point sees the Urchins move even closer to the play-offs. As we approach the business end of the season teams are bunching like athletes going into the last lap of the 10000 metres. All games are critical from now on and every point is vital. A good victory at home against Hastings United this Saturday could see the lads claim a top five spot - and our game in hand could be priceless. So please get down to Bridge Avenue this Saturday and cheer on the Mighty Urchins!

Hendon 1 AFC Hornchurch 2
Sunday 29th March
The Urchins recorded their third away win this month to climb back into 6th place and move within touching distance of a play off place. A positive result on Tuesday versus Maidstone United, the last of seven away fixtures in March, could see the lads climb to 4th but this will depend on the results of other games that night. Nevertheless, with our game in hand, we look strong for a play-off spot.

Wealdstone 1 AFC Hornchurch 0
Tuesday 24th March
The Urchins play-off aspirations received a dent when they were caught napping in the second minute of the game. Ryan Ashe headed the hosts in front after just 84 seconds of play. Although the lads pressed hard Wealdstone's early strike proved to be enough to take all three points. We now move on to our SUNDAY game versus Hendon - which will be played at Wembley FC.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Dartford 0
Saturday 21st March
It was carnival time this afternoon as the wind of change blew around Bridge Avenue ushering in a new era for the Urchins. The team rose to the occasion - cheered on by our largest League crowd of the season - and served up some superb football. A goal in each half was enough to secure all three points and the team left the field to a standing ovation. With this victory the Urchins leapfrog Dartford and are hot on the heels of Carshalton challenging for a coveted play-off place.

Boreham Wood 1 AFC Hornchurch 3
Saturday 14th March
The Mighty Urchins continued their excellent awayday form and powered to a convincing victory against a skillful 'Wood side. This win lifts the lads to seventh place in the League and within touching distance of a play-off place. Next Saturday's HOME fixture against Dartford is now a real 'six pointer' and will be a tough test for both teams. It should be a cracker so get down to The Bridge and cheer on the lads - and help them secure that coveted play-off place.

Carshalton Athletic 2 AFC Hornchurch 2
Tuesday 10th March
The Urchins continued their March roadshow with a superb fightback against play-off contenders Carshalton. The Robins hit the Urchins hard in the first half with two goals in a minute. However, not for the first time, the lads did not drop their heads but dug deep to earn a valuable point - and could so easily have taken all three. Great stuff lads! Now its off to Boreham Wood this Saturday.

Tonbridge Angels 0 AFC Hornchurch 1
Saturday 7th March
The Urchins dug deep and held their nerve in this very physical and eventful game which saw three players dismissed from the field of play. They claimed all three points and lift themselves to seventh place in the RPL Table. Yet another great team effort by the lads typified by Elliot Styles performing brilliantly as 'makeshift' 'keeper. We now move on to Carshalton on Tuesday with great expectations. Well done the Urchins!

Urchins Reach President's Cup Final
Wednesday 4th March
The Capital League Urchins eased into the Final of the President's Cup after a keenly fought contest versus Wingate and Finchley. With the scores level at full time the Urchins went on to win the penalty shootout 4-3. Our lads are the current Cup holders and will now play either Bishop's Stortford or Harrow Borough in the Final (date to be confirmed). Well done young Urchins!!

Dover Athletic 2 AFC Hornchurch 1
Tuesday 3rd March
Injury ravaged Urchins battled magnificently against Champions elect Dover, and against the elements, but sadly came away with no points but with plenty of pride. Colin's patchwork side gave the runaway leaders a hard game with young Jason Willis, growing in confidence with every game, crowning a superb all-round team performance. Well done Urchins!

Harrow Borough 1 AFC Hornchurch 2
Saturday 21st February
The Urchins got back to winning ways this afternoon with an impressive display against the Boro' with goals from Michael Spencer and Ross Wall enough to earn all three points. Darren Behcet returned in goal making some superb saves in a good all-round team performance.

Billericay Town 1 AFC Hornchurch 0
Tuesday 10th February
A 28th minute goal from 'Ricay's Bradley Woods-Garness was enough to end the Urchins involvement in this season's Isthmian League Cup. Both teams found the playing surface difficult but great credit must go to the groundsman whose hard work enabled the game to be played. Good luck to Billericay in the next round.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Canvey Island 0
Saturday 31st January
A Dean Green goal after five minutes was enough to earn the Urchins all three points and move them back up to eighth spot in the League Table. The Urchins have now won eight of their last nine home games - impressive form which will be needed for next week's tricky away fixtures against Maidstone United and Wealdstone.

Billericay Town 1 AFC Hornchurch 0
Saturday 24th January
A totally bizarre goal left the Urchins pointless at today's RPL encounter at New Lodge. It was a game which could so easily have yielded three points but fate dealt a cruel blow in the 85th minute and an unbelieveable deflection robbed Hornchurch of at least a point.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Witham Town 0
Tuesday 20th January

The Urchins eased into the Fourth Round of the League Cup with a workmanlike performance against a very determined Witham. An early strike from Ross Wall and an injury time clincher from Frankie Curley earned the Urchins an away trip to either Waltham Abbey or Billericay Town in the next round.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Margate 0
Saturday 17th January
The Urchins bounced back from last Wednesday's Essex Senior Cup disappointment with an inpressive display against Margate. In a thoroughly entertaining game Hornchurch proved much too strong for the visitors - who also played their part in entertaining the crowd. Two goals from Ross Wall and a late strike from Kris Lee earned the Urchins all three points and moved them up to eighth in the League Table.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Tooting & Mitcham Utd 0
Saturday 20th December
The Urchins continued their climb up the League table with a very professional performance against a robust Tooting and Mitcham side. But for the superb display by the visitors 'keeper the scoreline could have been far less flattering for the Terrors. In a game where the Urchins were always in control it was left to Ross Wall to break the deadlock in the 76th minute.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Billericay Town 2 (aet)
Tuesday 16th December
The Urchins treated their fans to another 'classic' this evening with a thrilling 3-2 victory to earn a place in the Essex Senior Cup Quarter Finals. At 2-0 down a victory looker a million miles away but with superb guidance from Jamie Southon on the touchline and plenty of self-belief the lads dug in. Two Simon Parker goals in the last six minutes forced extra time and Jimmy Mac hit the winner a few minutes from time. The Quarter-Finals draw will be broadcast live on Radio Essex today at around 4.30pm and news will be posted here shortly afterwards.

Ware 1 AFC Hornchurch 3
Thursday 11th December
On a cold and frosty night the young Urchins put in a superb performance to reach the semi-finals of the President's Cup. After going 1-0 down in the 48th minute the lads fought back with a goal from John Green and a brace from Michael Dekeyzer sealing the victory. Our semi-final tie will be away to either Hayes & Yeading or Wingate & Finchley with the game due to be played week commencing 19th January.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Ramsgate 0
Saturday 6th December
Today's game followed the same script as Tuesday's Leage Cup tie. Going in 0-0 at the break with no reward for their efforts the Urchins treated their fans to a pulsating display of superb football in the second half with three excellently crafted goals and three valuable league points as the prize.

AFC Hornchurch 4 Potters Bar Town 0
Tuesday 2nd December
On a bitterly cold evening the Urchins eased through to the Third Round of the Isthmian League Cup with a comfortable win against the Scholars. 'Bar showed plenty of determination and held the Urchins at bay until the break. However, in the second period the Premier League team showed its class by hitting the net four times - a brace each for Dean Green and Ross Wall. The Third Round draw has yet to be made with matches to be played in January.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Sutton United 1
Saturday 29th November
The Urchins battled superbly well this afternoon against a very organised and skillful Sutton side to earn three valuable League points. Second half goals from Kris Lee and Simon Parker did the trick. However the game was marred when the U's 'keeper, Paul Nicholls, had to be substituted following an injury. We hope he has now fully recovered and wish him well.

Hastings United 2 AFC Hornchurch 4
Saturday 15th November
After falling 2-0 down to their hosts in the first 15 minutes the Urchins yet again showed tremendous character and resolve and powered to a splendid 4-2 victory. The well-earned three points saw them leapfrog over Hastings into 13th place with the prospect of climbing higher as we make up games in hand over many of the teams above us. Three more points will be on offer this Tuesday evening when we entertain Hendon at Bridge Avenue, k.o. 7.45pm.

Gt. Wakering Rovers 1 AFC Hornchurch 3
Wednesday 12th November
The Urchins put last Sunday's heartache behind them, rolled up their sleeves and put on a thoroughly professional performance to comfortably win this Essex Senior Cup tie. The victory earns them a home fixture in the Fourth Round against either Harlow Town or Billericay Town (who play next week). Fourth Round games are due to be completed by 6th December.

AFC Hornchurch 0 Peterborough United 1
Sunday 9th November
After holding First Division Peterborough for a full 90 minutes and looking forward to the replay a 91st minute Craig Mackail-Smith goal broke our hearts but not our spirit. The team did us proud today and the Posh know they were in a game. Ironically, a win today could have seen us battling Tranmere Rovers in the next round but it is not to be. We lived the dream, enjoyed every minute of it and will be back again next year with even more resolve and determination. Well done Urchin lionhearts - you are all heroes and good luck to the Posh in the next round. Your fans behaved impecably today and are great ambassadors for your club.

Weymouth 1 AFC Hornchurch 2
Saturday 25th October
There are no superlatives to describe today's incredible team performance! 'Total commitment' doesn't even come close. The lads played out of their skins and there didn't seem to be two league places between the teams never mind two Divisions. The travelling Urchin Army were treated to a day they will never forget and Simon's last minute winner was the stuff of legends and will surely go down in Urchin folklore. We are still 'living the dream'! See the First Round Cup Draw on ITV at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
