Young Urchins Make History
The U18’s defeated Brentwood Town 2-0 last night at Southend Manor to become EJA League Champions. Our young guns have now won all four competitions, EJA South West Section League, EJA League Challenge Cup, EJA Magnus Cup and now the EJA League Championship. This feat has never been accomplished before. Congratulations to the players and all involved in this historic season.

AFC Hornchurch Awards Presentation Evening
Saturday 3rd May 2008
The Urchins packed into the Clubhouse for an evening of celebration. We have had a wonderful season back in the Ryman Prem. and this was the opportunity to thank the players and staff for their tremendous effort throughout the season. It was also time to present the Annual Club Awards. Some difficult decisions had to be made as everyone deserved a trophy. Click HERE to view the photos

Dale Wins 'Safe Hands' Award for April
Dale Brightly has won April's RPL Safe Hands Award. Dale's excellent work, and that of the whole defence, saw the Urchins concede only three goals in their last nine RPL games - whilst scoring twenty! In six of these nine games Dale kept a clean sheet. Well done Dale on this most deserved Award.

AFC Wimbledon 3 AFC Hornchurch 1
The Urchins tremendous season ended in glorious defeat at Kingsmeadow in their Ryman Premier Play-Off Semi-Final. The lads gave their all but on the night it was just not quite enough to secure victory over a powerful Wombles side. For the Urchins, who have come so far in such a short time, it was just 'a bridge too far'. The obvious disappointment on the faces of the players was clear to see but they can hold their heads high as they did us proud. Well done to every one of them!

AFC Hornchurch 1 AFC Wimbledon 1
Both teams put on a superb show in the spring sunshine with honours even. Urchins largest crowd of the season were treated to some excellent football from both sides who must now meet again in a play-off semi-final next Tuesday evening. The winners will play either Staines Town or Ramsgate in the play-off final next Saturday (3rd May).

Folkestone Invicta 0 AFC Hornchurch 0
The Urchins extended their unbeaten run to eight games this evening with a goal-less draw at Folkestone. The hosts were desperate for the points as they scrambled to avoid the trap door to Ryman One but with the pitch waterlogged in places any chance of free-flowing football was impossible. The game was reduced to a handful of chances for both sides and Folkestone must wait until Saturday for their fate to be decided whilst the Urchins entertain AFC Wimbledon in our last League home game of the season. It should be a 'cracker'!

Tonbridge Angels 1 AFC Hornchurch 1
The Urchins were awesome in defence today in the face of a desperate full-blooded Angels second half onslaught as they battled for the win which would keep them in contention. However, it was the Urchins who secured the single point which guaranteed them a play-off place. Next Saturday's game versus AFC Wimbledon is massive - and may serve as a dress rehearsal for the play-off semi three days later.

Urchins are Capital League Champions - Again!
The Capital League Urchins put the icing on their cake by clinching the League title this evening with a creditable 2-2 draw at Chelmsford. This trophy follows hard on the heels of last week's Presidents Cup victory. The CL boys have been absolutely awesome this season. They started the season as 2006/07 Champions and so have emphatically retained their title.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Wealdstone 0
In a game where both teams were battling hard for the points, but for very different reasons, the Urchins came out on top courtesy of another spectacular goal from Simon Parker. With a play-off place virtually guaranteed we cannot take our foot off the gas as we strive for a second or third place finish to secure home advantage in the play-off semis. Three very tough games lie ahead, starting with Tonbridge next Saturday.

President's Cup Glory for Asa's Aces
Our unstoppable Capital League side made it 17 wins from 17 games this season as they defeated Staines Town in the President's Cup Final this evening. The full time score was level at four apiece but the cool-headed Urchins won the penalty shootout by four goals to two! With 13 wins out of 13 in the League a famous 'double' is in the offing. Well done Asa's Aces! Click HERE for match report

East Thurrock United 1 AFC Hornchurch 2
The Urchins fought hard against a battling East Thurrock side this afternoon to earn their fifth consecutive victory. Second half goals from Dean Green and a screamer from Mark Janney brought home three invaluable points to strengthen our chances of securing a play-off place.

Cup Success for the Urchins
The U18's won our first trophy of the season when they defeated Leyton 3-1 in the EJA Challenge Cup Final last Wednesday. The U18's are also top of the League so a League and Cup double could be coming their way. Congratulations young Urchins!

Simon Gets the Boot!
The Ryman Premier 'Golden Boot' Award for March (sponsored by Snapshot Poker) has deservedly gone to Simon Parker in recognition of his six spectacular League goals scored during the month. Well done Simon - and keep lobbing them in!

AFC Hornchurch 9 (nine) Leyton 0
The Urchins treated their fans to a real goalfest today as they overwhelmed plucky Leyton. Both Simon Parker and Harry Elmes scored hat tricks with Jim McFarlane, Elliot Styles and Jamie Richards also finding the net.

Harrow Borough 0 AFC Hornchurch 2
The Urchins braved the rain, sleet, hailstones and snow to earn a convincing victory at Harrow which lifts them back into third place. Simon Parker gave us the lead with a superbly taken free-kick and Dean Green secured the points with an excellent 76th minute goal. The Urchins are finding some fine form at the right time with our last three games all resulting in 2-0 victories.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Margate 0
The Urchins treated the 424 spectators to a dazzling display of attacking football to earn three valuable points against a very talented Margate side. Simon Parker scored a goal in each half by spectacularly lobbing the 'keeper in a thoroughly dominant Urchins performance. Live match commentary was broadcast courtesy of GATE RADIO and for those who want to listen again it will be available from the Marhate website.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Maidstone United 0
A healthy crowd of 471 saw the Urchins score their second 'double' of the season courtesy of second half goals from both substitutes - Dean Green and Harry Elmes. This win lifts AFCH to third place in the League and again focuses minds on the approaching play-offs.

AFC Hornchurch win 'Team Performance of the Month'
AFC Hornchurch have won the "Performance of the Month" award for the Ryman League Premier Division. Having steadily climbed up the table in recent weeks to move into the play-off places, AFC Hornchurch travelled to League leaders Chelmsford City on the second Saturday in February, and produced a stunning 4-0 win against their hosts. This also completed the League double over their Essex neighbours at the same time, having beaten the Clarets 1-0 at home on 1st September. Click HERE to read the Bulletin
(Courtesy of Ryman Bulletin No.30)

Boreham Wood 2 AFC Hornchurch 1
Despite outplaying their hosts for the majority of the game the Urchins failed to capitalise on their superiority and came away pointless. AFCH looked like earning a well deserved point but an 85th minute strike by Chris Bangura denied them a share of the spoils. For many reasons it will be a game everyone will want to forget.

Capital League: AFC Hornchurch 3 Leighton Town 0
Another impressive performance from Asa's Aces saw them power to a 3-0 victory this evening against a hard-working Leighton side. Goals from Dean Green and Jim McFarlane gave the Urchins a 2-0 interval lead, then Jamie Richards struck in the 66th minute to seal the victory.

Staines Town 1 AFC Hornchurch 1
A 'Jekyll and Hyde' performance by the Urchins saw them take this game by the scruff of the neck in the first half and then allow Staines a share of the spoils by conceding a very 'soft' goal in the second period. The Urchin faithful may have settled for a point before kick-off but most left the ground feeling they should have won all three! Staines are a very friendly well run Club with excellent facilities and we thank our hosts for today's fine hospitality and wish them well.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Horsham 2
Despite dominating the game for virtually the whole 90 minutes the Urchins slid to defeat against a talented but unenterprising Horsham side. For the last half hour the Horsham goalmouth resembled the 'Alamo' as the Urchins surged forward, wave after wave. Colin will be pleased with the lads performance which, on another day, would have seen us comfortably secure all three points.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Carshalton Athletic 2
The 'never say die' Urchins turned in a performance which left the home crowd breathless as they hit three goals in the last five minutes to earn a sensational victory against The Robins. Goal heroes Kris Lee (2) and Simon Parker turned the game completely on its head after it looked as though AFCH would earn nothing from the game. Although The Urchins created more scoring chances it was The Robins who hit two excellent goals and looked like stealing the points. However, when Kris Lee pulled one back five minutes from 'time' nobody in the stadium could have predicted what was to follow.

Capital League: Maldon 1 AFC Hornchurch 6
A powerful performance by the Capital League Urchins at Maldon saw them consolidate their position at the head of the table. A Harry Elmes hat-trick and goals from Mark Janney, Joe Staunton and Ross Wall contributed to an emphatic victory. The strong possibility of a League and Cup 'double' looms!

Colin McBride Interview

Chelmsford City 0 AFC Hornchurch 4
The lionheart Urchins put in a sublime performance this afternoon to completely outplay League Leaders Chelmsford and score their most impressive victory of the season so far. Whilst the Champions elect will probably regard today's result as a mere blip the Urchins will take great heart from the victory. They played some scintillating football and bounced back superbly after last Tuesday's defeat.

Capital League: AFC Hornchurch 3 Harlow Town 1
The Capital League Urchins took another great step towards retaining their Title as they powered to a 3-1 victory over third placed Harlow Town. In a very hard (but fairly) fought contest both teams put on an entertaining display. Urchins hero, Ross Wall, claimed all three Urchin goals against a team that contained no fewer than eight players who were in the Harlow squad at our RPL game at The Bridge earlier this season. Well done young Urchins!

AFC Hornchurch 0 East Thurrock United 1
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to young Shane Oakley.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Hendon 0
The Urchins earned an impressive victory against second placed Hendon in today's RPL fixture. The visitors showed plenty of skill but a first half injury time goal by Jamie Richards gave AFCH the lead at half time. The Urchins played some excellent football in the second period and whilst Hendon looked dangerous on the break The Urchins showed their true mettle and never really looked like surrendering the points.

AFC Hornchurch 0 Staines Town 0
A solid workmanlike performance from The Urchins saw them share the points against a well fancied Staines Town outfit. AFCH created the better chances but failed to capitalise in front of goal. So we move on to another tough game when we entertain second placed Hendon at Bridge Avenue this coming Saturday.

Horsham 3 AFC Hornchurch 1
The Urchins inability to capitalise on their goal scoring chances cost them dear again as they went down 3-1 at Horsham this afternoon. Although going in 2-1 down at half time there was every confidence that we could at least earn a point. It was not to be however as home striker Chamal Fenelan struck in the 74th minute to wrap it up for the home side.

Capital League Urchins in PCC Final
The Capital League Urchins claimed a superb victory at Ware this evening thanks to a 71st minute Ross Wall goal.and earned a place in the Presidents Challenge Cup Final. Their opponents will be decided on February 14th when Staines Town play Croydon Athletic in the second Semi-Final. The date and venue for the Final will be decided once both finalists are known. Well done young Urchins!

AFC Hornchurch 3 Ramsgate 1
The Urchins powered to an impressive 3-1 win over a strong Ramsgate side this afternoon. The score was tied at 1-1 at half time but a superb second half performance, with goals from Kris Lee and Simon Parker, sealed the well-earned victory. Jamie Richards also impressed when he made his Urchins debut as a 63rd minute substitue.

STOP PRESS: Colin Signs Two New Urchins
Ex Leyton Orient Captain John Mackie has signed for the Urchins today. John is a 30 year old centre half with enormous experience. A tremendous swoop by Colin. The club have also signed 28 year old striker Jamie Richards from East Thurrock who will add much needed cover to the squad. Welcome John and Jamie.

Hastings United 0 AFC Hornchurch 0
Today's RPL game at the Pilot Field ended in stalemate as the teams played out a goal-less draw in the mud. AFCH must rue the opportunity of not taking all three points as they created no less than eleven clear cut scoring chances. The lads were well supported by the travelling Urchin Army who, as usual, did the team proud.

Capital League: AFC Hornchurch 3 Enfield Town 2
The Capital League Urchins served notice that they will not relinquish their Title easily. They inflicted the first defeat of the season on Enfield Town and so leap-frogged them to become League Leaders. Both teams went into the game with a 100% record so it was always going to be a close affair. This proved to be the case and it was left to Martin Carthy to hammer home the winner, through a packed defence, two minutes into injury time. Well done young Urchins!

AFC Hornchurch 1 Heybridge Swifts 0
The Urchins turned in another gritty performance to record their fourth win in five games and climb to fouth place in the Table. The victory was well earned against a very determined Swifts side who may count themselves unlucky not to have earned a point. However, it was Mark Janney's well struck penalty which claimed all three points for AFCH.

Leyton 2 AFC Hornchurch 5
Both teams served up some excellent Boxing Day entertainment for the deceptively small crowd of 114. Leyton showed some very nice skills which suggested they will soon climb the table but it was the Urchins workmanlike performance which earned all three points and sees them climb to sixth place in the table.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Maidstone United 0
The Urchins eased comfortably into the last 16 of the Ryman League Cup with a thoroughly professional performance against a lack-lustre Maidstone side. AFCH had much of the play in the first half but with little reward. However, after the interval an excellent goal by Joe Keith and a brace from the ever dependable Simon Parker earned The Urchins a home tie against Ramsgate in the Fouth Round.

Billericay Town 0 AFC Hornchurch 2
The Urchins produced a sublime performance today at New Lodge to earn themselves all three points. AFCH applied pressure from the start and when Des Boateng netted in the 11th minute the victory was never really in doubt. Harry Elmes banged in a second just before the interval. It was a very disapponting performance by 'Ricay who looked impressive when they visited Bridge Avenue back in August but sadly, for them, were a different team today.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Folkestone Invicta 1
The Urchins secured all three points against a very capable Folkestone Invicta thanks to second half goals from Simon Parker and Mark Janney. Folkestone showed tremendous spirit and could easily have earned a point had they not conceded an 89th minute penalty. The victory will stand the Urchins in good stead as they prepare for Tuesday evening's encounter at Ramsgate - third time lucky!

Another Abandoned Game!
After a long and weary trek to Ramsgate the match was called off after 31 minutes following flooflight failure. Ramsgate started brightly but AFCH came more and more into the game as time progressed. Sadly the lights went out one minute after Simon Parker's superb equaliser.

Margate 2 AFC Hornchurch 1
Most of the action was squeezed into the last 15 minutes of this very competitive game. AFCH beleived they had earned a creditable draw when Mark Janney levelled on 82 minutes. However fate cruelly denied the Urchins a share of the spoils when Margate earned an 89th minute penalty to give them all three points.

Capital League: AFC Hornchurch 4 Maldon Town 1
The young Urchins powered to a convincing victory this evening to earn themselves a place in the President's Challenge Cup Semi-Final. This tie will be played away but at present our opponents are unknown. A goal apiece from Shane Oakley and Michael Ramkin and a brace from Ross Wall sealed the victory.

Maidstone United 0 AFC Hornchurch 2
AFCH earned a well deserved victory in this Ryman Premier fixture with goals from Simon Parker and Dean Green. On a damp night The Urchins always looked in control and whilst the hosts battled well once we went ahead there was little doubt who would be the victors. The new lads are fitting in very well so we can look forward to climbig up the table as we catch up on our fixture backlog.

cccccccccxxxxAnother Quality Signing!
Des Boateng

Talented midfielder Des Boateng has joined AFCH from Ryman South side Tooting & Mitcham. Des is no stranger to The Bridge as he played for Welling in our F.A. Cup clash last season - scoring in the final minute of the replay. His skills will be a great asset to the team.

Capital League Cup: Harlow 1 AFC Hornchurch 3
Two goals from Shane Oakley and one from Harry Elmes earned the Urchins Capital League side a fine victory in this Presidents Cup Second Round tie at Barrows Farm. AFCH are now at HOME to Maldon Town in the Third Round with the match due to be played Thursday 29th November.

cccccccccDean Green Signs for Urchins
Dean Green

Dean Green, a hard working and creative midfield player, has joined AFCH from Hendon. He has also played for Staines Town. Dean is a very attacking player and will give The Urchins even more bite in central and right midfield. Great signing Colin - and welcome aboard Deano!

cccccccccAFC Hornchurch 3 Tilbury 0
Simon Parker
A revitalised Urchins put in a superb team performance to ease into the Third Round of the Ryman League Cup tonight. AFCH totally dominated the game to the delight of the 182 hardy souls who braved the elements to witness this well earned victory. We will face Maidstone at HOME in the next Round.

AFC Hornchurch 2 Boreham Wood 3
AFCH found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline in this very entertaining match. The team showed plenty of spirit and created some excellent scoring opportunities. Whilst it hurts to lose there were many positives to draw from this game and the team proved it will not be long before they are firing on all cylinders. We have plenty to look forward to.

cccccccccColin Brings New Players On-Board
Frank Curley

Frankie Curley, an exciting central midfielder, joins us from Ryman North Redbridge where he was Club Captain. He made 44 appearances for Redbridge scoring twice.

Steve Wales

Steve Wales, an attacking right-sided midfield player joins us on a month's loan from Conference South Cambridge City. Steve brings a wealth of experience to the Club. He has been capped for England at non-league international level.

Tilbury 2 AFC Hornchurch 1
AFCH made an untimely exit in this year's FansFocus.Com Essex Senior Cup competition at Tilbury this evening. All three goals were scored from penalty kicks and there was a fair sprinkling of red and yellow cards. The travelling Urchins witnessed a fairly lack-lustre performance which will need to improve if we are to gain all three points from our forthcoming RPL home fixture against Borham Wood this Saturday.

AFC Wimbledon 1 AFC Hornchurch 0
A large Urchin Army made the trip to Kingsmeadow for this first ever meeting of the two clubs. The 'Dons took a well deserved lead in the 16th minute and put AFCH under some pressure. However, the Urchins were a different team in the second half and could easily have snatched an equaliser. Dale Brightly had a superb game, as did Ollie Adedeji. Special mention also for the 'Dons Luke Garrard who played superbly in the second half as a 'makeshift' keeper after Luke Little broke a finger.

Rearranged Fixtures versus Tilbury
The Urchins will travel to Tilbury on Tuesday 13th November to play their FansFocus.Com Essex Senior Cup Third Round tie. Then the following Tuesday, 20th November, will play hosts to Tilbury in our Ryman League Cup First Round game.

ccccccccccNorthwood 2 AFC Hornchurch 1
An injury-hit Urchins team bravely bowed out of this season's F.A. Trophy competition this evening. Without SEVEN first team players AFCH found the task a little too tough against their determined Ryman North opponents. Congratulations to Northwood who have earned themselves an away fixture at AFC Wimbledon in the next round.

FA Trophy
AFC Hornchurch 2 Northwood 2
Again the Urchins found themselves behind at the break but a second half revival saw goals from Joe Keith and Simon Parker give AFCH a 2-1 lead. However, a late equaliser forced a replay at Northwood next Tuesday.
Our FansFocus.Com Essex Senior Cup third Round game at Tilbury is therefore postponed.

Capital League: AFC Hornchurch 6 Chelmsford C. 0
The Urchins hit Chelmsford for six in their top of the table encounter at Bridge Avenue this evening. A hat trick from Richard Halle, two from Shane Oakley and a late goal from Tony Fraser sealed this emphatic victory. The Urchins, with their 100% record, move closer to top spot, now only one point behind Chelmsford with two games in hand.

cccccccccAFC Hornchurch 2 Tonbridge Angels 1
Kris Lee
The Urchins bounced back from last Saturday's F.A. Cup disappointment to claim all three points against a very pacey and skilful Tonbridge side. A goal in each half from Kris Lee sealed the points in a very entertaining game. The win lifts AFCH to 9th in the League with games in hand.

FA Cup
AFC Hornchurch 0 Team Bath 1
At a subdued Bridge Avenue this afternoon The Urchins exited this season's F.A. Cup Competition by virtue of a 59th minute goal from Sean Canham. Team Bath took their chance and we wish them well in the First Round Proper where they have a home tie against Chasetown.

Dartford 0 AFC Hornchurch 3
The Urchins secured their place in the Second Qualifying Round of the F.A. Trophy with a convincing victory at Dartford's impressive Princes Park ground. The home team had their chances but a superb Dale Brightly kept a clean sheet. AFCH were always on top and their Premier League class proved too strong for the Darts. A first half header from Kris Lee followed by second period goals from Harry Elmes and Richard Halle means The Urchins will entertain Northwood from the Ryman North in the next round on Saturday 3rd November.

Second Qual. Round Draw
The prize for the winners of our F.A. Trophy 1st. Qualifying Round Replay at Dartford on Tuesday evening (23rd Oct.) will be a home tie against Ryman North side Northwood in the next Round.

AFC Hornchurch 0 Dartford 0
This First Qualifying Round F.A. Trophy match ended in stalemate as both teams seemed to cancel each other out. The Darts brought many travelling fans who made a lot of noise and behaved impeccably. They are a credit to their Club. So it's a replay at Dartford on Tuesday evening when both teams will probably feel they will play better. This Replay means that our League Cup encounter with Tilbury will be postponed for a second time.

Wealdstone 2 AFC Hornchurch 0
Sadly a night to quickly put behind us as a goal in each half by Ryan Ashe earned the home side all three points. AFCH had their chances - a strong penalty appeal was declined and what seemed a perfectly good headed goal by Simon Parker was ruled offside. In the course of a season a night like this one is almost inevitable. However we quickly move on to two very important Cup games, both at home. This Saturday we play Dartford in the F.A. Trophy and the following Saturday its Team Bath in the F.A. Cup.

FA Cup
AFC Hornchurch at Home to Team Bath
The Urchins have been favoured with a home draw in the 4th Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup and will entertain Team Bath from the SLP on Saturday 27th October. Both teams will consider it a great opportunity to progress to the First Round Proper but with home advantage the Urchins must regard themselves as slight favourites.

FA Cup
AFC Hornchurch 2 Dulwich Hamlet 1
The Urchins are still "living the dream" after a very workmanlike victory against a robust Hamlet side. AFCH had much of the possession and created far more scoring chances but the Dulwich 'keeper made some superb saves to keep the game tight. Dulwich certainly acquitted themselves well but it's The Urchins who go forward to the 4th Qualifying Round - just one game away from a possible away trip to Elland Road in the First Round Proper!

Capital League: AFC Hornchurch 2 Leyton 0
Shane Oakley secured all three points for the Capital League Urchins by scoring two fine goals, one in each half. AFCH dominated the game for long periods and rarely looked under pressure. Leyton will hope for revenge in next week's reverse fixture to be played on Wednesday 10th October.

Another pulsating game at The Bridge saw the Urchins earn their place in the Third Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup with a 2-1 victory against Ryman Prem. League leaders Hendon. AFCH went in 1-0 down at half time but again showed their character by turning the game around with goals from Harry Elmes and Simon Parker. Our opponents at home on the 13th of October will be Ryman South side Dulwich Hamlet.

Hendon 1 AFC Hornchurch 1
Our F.A. Cup Second Qualifying Round match at Hendon ended all square at one apiece after a very entertaining game at Claremont Road. Harry Elmes put AFCH ahead in the 21st minute only for Hendon to level at 1-1 in the first minute of the second period. The replay will be at Bridge Avenue this coming Tuesday which has forced the postponement of our League Cup clash with Tilbury.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Hastings United 2
This was certainly not a game for the faint-hearted. All the excitement came in the second half with two goals in the last minute sealing the victory. This was a tough game against a physical side that didn't shirk their tackles. Some robust tackling left four Urchins injured with Richard Goddard and Elliot Styles being taken to hospital. Whilst we have tried to avoid the "battle" cliche it really was a battle out there tonight and the Urchins proved themselves true warriors.

Another Award for The Urchins
AFC Hornchurch have been crowned "F.A. East Counties Club of the Season". Jennie will visit F.A. Headquarters at Soho Square in October to collect the Award. This Award is testimony to all the hard work put in by our dedicated behind-the-scenes team. Congratulations and well done to you all.

FA Cup
Urchins away in the FA Cup
AFCH have an away trip to Hendon in the Second Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup. Our opponents were decided this evening when Hendon ran out 3-2 victors in their replay at Aveley. Second Qualifying Round matches will be played on Saturday 29th September.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Cheshunt 1
MOM Harry Elmes
The Urchins eased into the second qualifying round of the F.A. Cup with what turned out to be a fairly comfortable win against an enterprising Cheshunt side. AFCH took an early lead through a superbly taken goal by m.o.m. Harry Elmes but were pegged back at 1-1 in first half injury time. In the second half
whilst Cheshunt looked dangerous on the break goals by Kris Lee and a second by Harry Elmes sealed the victory.

Carshalton Athletic 0 AFC Hornchurch 0
Despite the scoreline this was a very entertaining contest. The Urchins clearly won the first half creating some intense pressure - especially in the opening 15 minutes. However, as in recent games, the many chances were not converted into goals. The second half belonged to Carshalton who were just as guilty of not converting their chances. Both 'keepers made some excellent saves too so a point apiece was a fair result.

Capital League: Harlow 1 AFC Hornchurch 4
Our Capital League Champions started where they left off last season with an emphatic 4-1 win away to Harlow. Goals by Joe Keith and Harry Elmes were followed by a brace from Super Sub Tom Brooks. But for a penalty miss and some good work from the Hawks 'keeper the scoreline could have been even more eye-catching.

Hendon 3 AFC Hornchurch 1
The Urchins never really recovered from going 1-0 down in the first minute and again it was a story of missed chances. Hendon were a very pacey side showing plenty of skills and it just wasn't our night. The one bright spot was the welcome return of Simon Parker who scored the Urchins goal. We received a very warm welcome at Hendon from some very nice people. This is a very tight league with only three points separating the top eleven teams.

AFC Hornchurch 1 Chelmsford City 0
Richard Goddard
A crowd of 806 witnessed a very tense game at The Bridge with both 'keepers seeing plenty of action. AFCH showed great character and determination by soaking up much City pressure and it was left to Super Kris Lee to powerfully head the winner in the 74th minute. The Urchins defence was superb and man of the match Richard Goddard was everywhere. City may feel they should
have got something from the game but they are serious title contenders and will be "up there" at the end of the season.

Heybridge Swifts 1 AFC Hornchurch 1
Another encouraging performance saw The Urchins take home a point when it could so easily have (and should have) been all three. AFCH took the lead after 48 minutes with a well-worked strike by Kris Lee resulting from a Joe Keith corner and an assist by Richard Goddard. A catalogue of missed chances followed preventing The Urchins from extending their lead and they were duly punished in the 67th minute through a penalty conversion by Stafford- Browne. So we move forwaed to next Saturday's huge home clash with Title favourites Chelmsford City. It should be an enthralling encounter.

AFC Hornchurch 3 Harrow Borough 1
A thoroughly professional workmanlike performance by The Urchins saw them secure all three points and their first home win in this season's campaign. Whilst AFCH never really looked like losing Harrow always made things difficult and played some excellent flowing football on the break. Josh Lennie had a superb game and made several critical saves. Richard Goddard headed The Urchins into a 1-0 interval lead. Michael Brothers hit a powerful second goal and Harry Elmes made it three with a spectacular solo run. Bobby Highton hammered in a consolation goal for Harrow with a teriffic 35 yard effort in the 85th minute.

AFC Hornchurch 0 Billericay Town 2
Urchins suffered their first competitive defeat in 37 games going down 2-0 to a lively Billericay Town at The Bridge last night. The Urchins started a little aprehensively but then dominated the first half. Sadly some poor finishing and sheer bad luck prevented AFCH taking a first half lead. 'Ricay then showed their Premier League experience by controlling large parts of the second half and by scoring two superb goals. The Urchins should not lose heart as they will not come up against many better teams this season. This was a very entertaining game watched by a crowd of 1030 - best of the season so far.

Ashford Town 4 AFC Hornchurch 5
Urchins claimed all three points in this opening day nine goal thriller. The Urchins began the game in fine style and powered to a 4-1 lead at the interval (after scoring all five goals!) but Ashford came out for the second half all guns blazing to level the score at 4-4. This pulsating game could have gone either way but the ever dependable Simon Parker hit the winner to secure the victory. This really was a game to remember and illustrates how strong this league really is. Ashford showed incredible fighting spirit and visiting sides will under estimate them at their peril. Very nice people and we wish them well.

Harry Elmes
Police Foiled by Urchins
The Urchins put in another impressive performance today to claim a 3-0 victory at Ryman South Met. Police. A first half steal by David Lee was followed by second half smash and grab goals from Harry Elmes and Richard Goddard. The
Police had no clues in breaking down the Urchins defence and on the evidence the victory was well deserved. So now the long wait is nearly over as we move on to Ashford next Saturday. The team have shown excellent form in the pre-season friendlies and look like they can handle anything that is thrown at them.

Ilford 0 Asa's Aces 4
AFC Hornchurch's Capital League Eastern Champions scored an impressive win in their opening pre-season friendly at Ilford. Shane Oakley gave the Aces a 1-0 lead at half time then second half goals by Ronnie Fletcher, Alex Harris and Richard Halle sealed an inpressive Urchin victory. There is tremendous talent in our Capital League squad and many will be pressing for a first team place during the coming season.

Urchins Win First Trophy of the Season
With their emphatic 5-0 defeat of Leyton Orient The Urchins became the inaugural winners of the Barbara Jones Memorial Cup.

Rampant Urchins Tame the O's
AFC Hornchurch completely outplayed a youthful but spirited Leyton Orient side at The Bridge tonight. Urchins took the lead through Simon Parker with Kris Lee making it 2-0. A brace from Harry Elmes and a scorcher from Michael Brothers gave the Urchins a 5-0 victory and a game to remember. It was a thoroughly professional performance with some excellent finishing. We now move on to Met. Police on Saturday which will be our last friendly before the start of the season.

Andy Tomlinson
Urchins Impress at GWR
A first half strike by Kris Lee followed by a Mark Janney penalty and a thirty yard screamer from Andy Tomlinson gave the Urchins a deserved 3-0 victory against Great Wakering Rovers, who are never an easy team to beat. Colin and the lads
have plenty to smile about as we approach our challenging friendly against Leyton Orient on Tuesday evening.

Super Duper Kris Lee
Urchins 1 Ebbsfleet United 1
The Urchins again punch above their weight to earn a very creditable draw against Conference side Ebbsfleet United. A stunning goal by Kris Lee gave the Urchins the lead but Ebbsfleet levelled just before half time. Colin must be very
pleased with our pre-season performances so far - which bodes well for the approaching Ryman Premier campaign.

Fisher Athletic 1 Urchins 2
The Urchins claimed the first of hopefully many scalps from higher league opposition this season when they came back from the shock of conceding an early penalty to beat Conference South promotion hopefuls Fisher Athletic in their latest pre-season friendly. Urchin goals were scored by our young triallist Shahed Ahmed and Adam Parker. Another stiff test awaits this coming Saturday when we entertain Conference club Ebbsfleet United. Kick-off 3pm.

Urchins Clinch Impressive Sponsorship Deal
The club are delighted to announce the signing of a new five figure sponsorship agreement for this forthcoming season with the National Estate Agency Spicer Haart. The new strips will carry Haart on the home kit and Spicer McColl on the away shirts. We are hoping to wear the new strip for the Leyton Orient home friendly when the replica shirts will also be available in the club shop.

Ainsley
Beano at Burnham
The Urchins ran out 4-2 victors in a very entertaining game. First half goals by Harry Elmes and Michael Brothers were followed by a second half brace for Ainsley Gasper. A very hospitable welcome by Burnham, as usual, and a good day was had by all.

The O's are Coming !
Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for another pulsating evening when Nationwide First Division Leyton Orient visit Bridge Avenue on Tuesday 7th August. They have promised us a First team line-up so another stiff test awaits
our lads. Make a note in your diary and come along to cheer on the Mighty Urchins!

The Hammers Show Their Class
The Urchins put up a very spirited fight at The Bridge tonight but found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline. Shane Oakley again hit the net for the Urchins. A lively Hammers team gave our lads a great workout and the Gaffer will no doubt take a lot of positives from the game. This very entertaining game was watched by a healthy crowd of 940.

Odds Stacked Against the Urchins
A prominent high street bookie is offering the very short odds of 9/2 for the Urchins to win promotion to Conference South this season. Obviously our performances over the last two seasons have not gone unnoticed - but 9/2 without a ball being kicked seems daft.

Urchins Take-Off at Concord
The Urchins opened their 2007/08 campaign at Concord Rangers with a fine 2-0 win in the first of their pre-season friendlies. A well taken brace withinn a 5 minute spell by Shane Oakley saw the Ryman Premier side run out victors. Both sides showed spirit and should do well in their respective leagues. Many thanks to Concord Rangers for their very warm and hospitable welcome.

It's Ashford Town then 'Ricay !
AFC Hornchurch will open their Ryman Premier League programme on Saturday 18th August with an away fixture at Ashford Town. This will be closely followed by our opening home game on Tuesday 21st August when we entertain Billericay Town.
