HARINGEY BOROUGH 0 HORNCHURCH 3
Hornchurch kept up their challenge for the play-offs with a comfortable win at White Hart Lane, on a pitch which, following rain in the morning, looked in excellent condition - but you cannot always go by looks.
Hornchurch quickly settled and Abs Thompson went close after a good build-up by David Knight and George Purcell.
After a Haringey corner was cleared, Hornchurch took the lead after a Thompson cross was only partially cleared and the ball came back to Thompson, who fed through to Knight, and from the cross, Nicky Symons volleyed home from the far side to score his first goal since joining the Urchins.
Harry Palmer did well to save a hard shot from Dave Collis, and he then had to move quickly to grab a shot from Alex Bentley at the second attempt.
Palmer was beaten when a long clearance found Knight, who rounded the keeper but was thwarted by a last-ditch tackle by Ross Dedman.
Hornchurch went further ahead when Knight was fouled ten yards outside the area. There was some delay before the free kick could be taken, as Haringey were making a substitution, Nana Asamoah coming on for Anton Blackwood. But George Purcell waited calmly and then fired the ball low past the wall and into the net, for his 99th goal since joining Hornchurch.
Palmer was becoming overworked in goal, and he saved well from Thompson, turning the shot around the post.
Thompson was causing confusion on the right and when he linked up with Collis, the resulting centre found Symons, whose header looped over Palmer but onto the roof of the net.
The second half started at a slower pace, but Palmer was soon back in action, saving a Knight header from a Purcell centre.
Paul Goodacre moved up for a corner, and his header was cleared off the line as Hornchurch kept up a steady pressure on the home goal.
The third goal arrived when Collis played a long ball deep upfield for David Knight, who left the defence standing before neatly lobbing the ball over Palmer.
Haringey had little to offer in return, apart from a free kick which was capably defended by the defensive wall, and Sam Mott had just one direct shot to deal with, a few minutes from time.
