HORNCHURCH 1 AVELEY 2
Aveley had an early opportunity when Reece Conway was left unmarked following a Billy Coyne corner, but he directed his header straight at Sam Mott.
Hornchurch quickly took control, and Jed Chouman moved in from the right to send in a good shot, which James Marrable saved well.
Elliot Styles headed wide from a Joey May corner, but chances were rarely forthcoming, until May sent a good cross field pass to Alex Bentley. His cross was parried by Marrable and David Knight pounced to place the ball firmly into the net.
Aveley almost drew level when an Abs Seymour run ended with a corner. Bentley headed away for a second corner, and Liam Nash was unmarked as he ball came over, but Mott saved well.
There were few chances in the first half, although Tambeson Eyong almost increased the lead with a hard run at goal, the ball being scrambled around the post.
Close to half time Paul Goodacre headed over from a May corner.
Hornchurch lost their first half dominance when Eyong received an injury early in the second period, and, although he remained on the pitch Hornchurch lost control of the midfield.
Mott made an excellent save from Andres Tobon, but it was when Michael Pindy came on as substitute that Aveley began to dictate proceedings.
Aveley drew level when Pindy won a corner, and an unmarked Perry Dunn headed home from close range.
Hornchurch replied with a George Purcell shot which was deflected for a corner, whilst at the other end a Pindy run and shot was turned around the post.
Aveley always looked likely to get the winner and it arrived with two minutes of normal time left. The ball was played in from a corner on the right, and Kyle Asante took full advantage of a defensive shambles to prod the ball home from close range.
Hornchurch had two chances in stoppage time, the first being a hard free kick by Purcell which was deflected wide, and almost on time Junior Luke powered in but his shot was blocked.
