HORNCHURCH 3 THAMESMEAD TOWN 1

With George Purcell and David Knight still missing with injuries, Hornchurch were also without Dave Collis and Paul Goodacre for the visit of Thamesmead, and Will King was given another start at right back.

Despite the absence of several key players, Hornchurch took command and after just three minutes they took the lead when Leon Mackenzie neatly finished off a cross from the left.

Thamesmead came back strongly, and Nathan Cooper had to make a last ditch interception to prevent Paul Vines homing in to a good cross from the right, whilst Ike-Robertson Feehi hit a first time volley wide of the post.

Abs Thompson made the first of many dangerous runs along the right wing, and his cross into the goalmouth eluded everyone, but on 23 minutes it was Thompson again racing down the wing, and this time he sent the ball over high towards the far post and it beat keeper Tyler McCarthy to give Hornchurch a two goal lead.

ON 37 minutes Jed Chouman sent a good pass to Thompson, and although McKenzie put the cross firmly into the net, the flag was raised for offside.

McCarthy then punched away a well-flighted James Morrish free kick, and was again called into action to save from Ayrton Coley.

McCarthy was beaten by a Mackenzie header but the ball hit the post and was cleared, but almost on half time McCarthy made an excellent save to deny Coley, tipping the shot away for a corner.

Hornchurch withstood some Thamesmead pressure after the interval, whilst Abs Thompson continued to create confusion down the right wing, and it was no surprise when Porter was booked for bringing him down in full flight. Morrish took the free kick and Mackenzie’s volley cannoned off a defender and out for a corner.

McCarthy saved from Coley, but shortly afterwards Mackenzie played a long ball to Coley, and although McCarthy saved the shot, Abs Thompson was quick to follow up to put the ball into the net.

Two minutes later Thamesmead pulled a goal back though Ike-Robertson Feehi, who converted a cross from the left, although supporters on the East Side were convinced there was a handball offence prior to the goal.

Two minutes later Thamesmead again had the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside, the flag being raised long beforehand.

Thompson was again brought down as he raced towards the area, with Joe Vines being booked.

Manager Jim McFarlane made two changes late in the game, Dave Collis and Jamie Hursit replacing Coley and Thompson, as Hornchurch had little difficulty in playing out the remaining few minutes for a convincing win.
