We look ahead to Saturday’s table topping clash with neighbours Canvey Island.

The Gulls were relegated from the Ryman (now Bostik) Premier division at the end of last season and made an inconsistent start to this campaign but have steadily moved up the table and are now making a real challenge for one of the two automatic promotion spots available.  They currently occupy 3rd place, 8 points behind Bowers & Pitsea but with 2 games in hand.  Recently the Islanders had a good win over Heybridge Swifts (3-0), a surprise defeat at home to Soham Town Rangers (0-3) before going on a 5 game unbeaten run which included games against Romford and top sides Barking, Dereham Town, Maldon & Tiptree and Potters Bar Town.

Hornchurch sit 11 points ahead of Bowers & Pitsea at the top of the table though the Urchins have played a game more, and 19 points ahead of 3rd placed Canvey though the Gulls have 3 games in hand.  Last time out Hornchurch were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Tilbury and will be hoping to address their inconsistent home form as we approach the season’s climax.
