We are very pleased and proud that Alex Bentley has been selected for Middlesex Wanderers, a team composed of top players across the non-league spectrum.
The world famous Middlesex Wanderers, a semi professional touring side will again be off on their travels after a recent successful tour to Scotland containing many Ryman League players. This year the club are visiting France with games against US Boulogne and Calais Racing Union lined up as part of their Great War Memorial Tour in commemoration with Queens Park 150th Anniversary on the 25th May -28th May 2017. The club have selected a squad across the top leagues of the non-league game. Luke Blewden from Tonbridge Angels, Liam Friend from Folkestone Invicta, Jake Pitty from Canvey Island, David Hughes from Harlow Town and Alex Bentley from AFC Hornchurch have all been invited from the Ryman League. MWAFC would like to thank all the managers for their support in agreeing to let their players experience representative football at the end of a long season.
On Alex being selected, Steve Ward from the Wanderers selection committee commented: “I’m delighted that Jim has allowed Alex to gain some representative honours with the Middlesex Wanderers. Alex fits the bill not only being an outstanding defender but one who meets the ethos of the club with his fine character and the way he conducts himself on and off the field. He was a player I had always been impressed with even when he was at Cray Wanderers and again when I had seen him play for Hornchurch. I know Jim speaks highly of him and he was one of the first players I earmarked for the tour when I was tasked with getting players on board. I’m sure he will represent AFC Hornchurch extremely positively on this short tour across the water.”
The Wanderers play US Boulogne on Friday 26th May at the Stade de la Liberation ko 5pm (tbc) and then visit the Stade I’Epopee on Sunday 28th May ko 2pm (tbc).
