Match Report by Tony Middleton
Early arrivals were able to admire yet another spectacular sunset over the west side of the ground, whilst others marvelled at the dexterity of Rob who bravely climbed the vertical wooden ladder to set up his video equipment in the gantry, where he found gale force winds and arctic temperatures.
Forest fielded a strong side and looked confident, Clarke almost creating an early opening, with Marler doing well to come back and cover, to slide the ball out for a corner. Daniels corner was headed away by Tony Vincent, whilst another Daniels corner was well cut out by Baldwin. Urchins first attempt at goal was a free kick from Burbridge, after Adetayo was impede, whilst another free kick, this time by Danny Gill, cannoned out off the wall.
Urchins came close to opening the score when Baldwin and Tony Vincent combined well, keeper Long rushing out to save at the feet of Baldwin, and shortly afterwards Roberts chipped a pass to Gill who chipped it back again to Roberts, whose shot was too close to Long. A Burbridge flick to Casper saw the best save of the match when Casper’s hard drive was turned around the post by Long who had flung himself full length across goal to save.
A quick check in the gantry at half time to ensure that Rob had not gone down with hypothermia, and back to the action on the pitch, where Bricknell raced goalwards and Madden made an excellent save. Urchins began to press forward and the only goal of the match came when Adetayo swung a free kick from the touchline low into the goalmouth and AINSLEY CASPER ghosted behind the defence to flick the ball home, between two defenders. In the absence of Jon Smith, who had deserted his post, the goal was announced by not-the-real-PA-announcer, who was cheered by the packed East side at max volume.
A good pass from Mensah almost created a second goal when Gill was just beaten to the ball by Long, and then Roberts was put through by Danny Vincent and Long raced out of goal to save well. John Hefford came on as substitute and his first touch almost brought a goal, Long diving to turn the ball around the post. Forest came back strongly towards the end and Madden made two very good saves, whilst Tony Vincent headed out a dangerous cross from the right. Urchins did well to hold out and have now won four matches in a row. The next match is against Thurrock on Tuesday.
