This was our furthest away trip of the season and possibly the furthest the club has ever had to travel for an away league fixture. As if that wasn't enough to take in we had the undoubted honour of being the first club to face Weston-super-Mare at their new ground.

An above average crowd of 482 (based on last season's attendances) came to watch and saw an incident packed first half. Weston's Marc McGregor flashed a shot across goal from the edge of the area in the 3rd minute and we replied soon after when a Damon Searle cross from the byeline was deflected wide for a corner with Shaun Carey stooping to make contact on the six yard line. A well taken 25 yard free kick on 14 minutes from Weston's Lee Jarman went round the wall and brought a good save from Mark Westhead, and Jarman caused problems again 3 minutes later when his quickly taken free kick sent to the far post was struck firmly by McGregor but was deflected wide. Darren Caskey shot wide from the edge of the area on 20 minutes and 3 minutes later, with Weston temporarily down to 10 men, Danny Shipp was put through on goal, surged into the area and powered the ball against the bar.

An even clearer chance came 2 minutes later when Shipp, through on goal again, shot past the quickly advancing home guardian Tony Malessa but also past the post. Then came a blow for us on 37 minutes when Paul McCarthy was sent off for a late challenge. It was a straight red and opinions seem divided on whether the tackle was worthy of a dismissal, with the majority thinking it harsh. For a few minutes we seemed a little in disarray and Weston twice found the back of the net, but on both occasions offside flags discounted them. Thankfully our offside trap was still in order.

All was back in order for the second half and you perhaps would have been forgiven for forgetting that we had only ten men. A run and shot from Weston's Harrison Kingston flew just wide on 52 minutes but the half did not quite have the same tempo as the first. Another run and shot from Jonathan French with 10 minutes to go revived the home side's hopes but the introduction of Charlie Taylor only a few minutes before was to give the Weston defence a new problem.

Taylor sent in a curling effort from the corner of the area on 77 minutes which, with a little more power, may have been the beating of Malessa, and 6 minutes later Shipp had a shot from the edge of the which deflected over.  Taylor made himself a similar chance to his first from the opposite corner of the area in the closing minutes, this time beating Malessa but curling just wide.

The game ended in the Weston half shortly after Kirk Jackson narrowly failed to make contact from close range from a Tarkan Mustafa cross.
