A first win for Manager Tony Chouls, in front of a home crowd and against a strong Lewes side with high hopes of finishing in a play-off place.
After a cautious opening couple of minutes we began to make inroads and we took the lead after 10 minutes. The Lewes defence struggled to clear after Max Hustwick headed off the line from a Terry Bowes cross and Adam Locke took control, chesting down a loose ball and sending Andy Tomlinson into the area who crossed to Danny Shipp who ran in to score. Lewes keeper Dominque Zepherin made a stunning save from a Bowes header on 23 minutes and Jamie Southon failed to really test him 5 minutes later with a diving header following a Richard O'Connor free kick, but Lewes equalised on 33 minutes when Jonathan Nurse sped down the left flank and fed the ball into Kirk Watts who shoot across Desborough and into the far corner. Bowes missed a sitter 8 minutes from the break following a Locke cross in, although in his defence he was probably expecting an offside flag, but we were back in front a minute later when a Shipp free kick took a deflection off the wall and was eventually put away from close range by Andy Douglas after Zepherin failed to control a header from Bowes.
Lewes came close to levelling the scores again early in the second half through a Francis Duku, and Andy Douglas and Danny Shipp went similarly close a few mintes later. The introduction of Lee Newman for Paul Kennett on 70 minutes seemed to give the Lewes attack more options and they slowly began to apply more pressure. Desborough had to be alert to smother an effort from Newman after he ran free into the area on 74 minutes, but the equaliser, which had been a long time coming, came a minute later. Newman headed a cross-in from the touchline against the post and Jay Lovett was on hand to prod the ball home from close range. Many thought that Lews would go on to win but with a bouyant home crowd behind us we rallied and the winner came in the dying minutes. Jamie Southon worked hard to get to the bye-line down the left and sent in a dangerous ball which Lewes could not deal with, and Chris Stowe, making a triumphant return to the club lashed the ball home into the roof of the net.
