For most of the first half we dominated this game and could easily gone into the break a goal or two in front.  A long range effort from Scott Gooding dipped narrowly over on 5 minutes and 6 minutes later Jean-Michel Sigere just failed to get his head to a Terry Bowes cross. Andy Douglas got clear 3 minutes later but his shot was blocked by keeper Andrew Deive.  Deive made a great stop two minutes later from a venomous 18 yard shot from Mark Robson and it seemed that it would only be a matter of time before we would be in front.  Sigere headed just wide on 21 minutes from an Adam Locke cross and Danny Shipp missed a great chance three minutes later after Sigere headed on a Mark Robson corner to the far post.  As our hold on the game began to slip towards half time Micky Desborough had to pull off a great save from John Phillips, but we were dealt a heavy blow when Newport took the lead on the stroke of half time when Phillips put away a loose ball after Desborough pushed a long range effort from Sam O'Sullivan.

Things went from bad to worse early in the second half when Paul O'Donoghue received his second yellow card of the afternoon for what looked like a nothing challenge and the drama continued 4 minutes later when an incident on the touchline led to a scuffle involving all players as well as coaches.  A yellow card for Sam O'Sullivan to add to his one in the first half led to much confusion when a red did not follow, but it was later discovered that the referee retracted the card after a case of mistaken identity.  It wasn't too long though before we were on level terms when Danny Shipp conveted from the spot after Sigere was brought down in the area. Desborough saved well from Matthew Morris on 68 minutes and an 18 yard effort from Sigere from a cleared corner went just over with minutes to go.  Newport had one final chance at the last to take all three points when substitute Gethyn Jones shot goalwards, but Desborough got down well at the post to save.
