Match Report to follow....
Well it was a narrow squeak wasnt it. Before the game Bognor would have been happy to go home with a point, but as it was they looked set for taking all three until we equalised deep into added on time. For all the controversy over the amount of time that was added on, Bognor had a golden opportunity to wrap the game up at the end of normal time which they failed to take.
Ashley Bayes had some work to do earlier than in recent matches when he had to push an 11th minute long range shot from Michael Birmingham wide of the post. A Simon Weatherstone effort from just outside the area following a strong attack dipped onto the roof of the net and he was also involved a few minutes later when Jamie Stuart turned the ball home following a corner. The goal, though, was disallowed due to a foot up by Weatherstone in the run up. A spectacular volley from Wayne Purser in the 33rd minute from a Scott Gooding cross went safely over and Bayes again saved well a couple of minutes later, this time from Ben Watson.
Early on in the second half it looked as if we were slowly getting the better of our visitors. 5 minutes in a long goal kick was headed on by Kirk Jackson into the path of Wayne Purser who rounded the keeper but whose shot was blocked by the boot of a defender. Weatherstone headed narrowly wide in the 56th minute and 4 minutes later Purser missed a great chance, toeing over from 6 yards after chesting down a cross in from Steve Clark. Kirk Jackson rattled the bar with an 18 yard effort in the 77th minute and Bayes made yet another good save a couple of minutes later. Bognor, though, took the lead with 5 minutes to go. A Daniel Beck effort from the corner of the area was too powerful for Bayes to hold onto and Ben Watson was at the right place at the right time to touch the ball in. They thought it was all over, and it should have been when Luke Nightingale got clear of the defence in the last minute of normal time, but Bayes again was on hand, saving the final shot with his legs. It was a frantic finish. Danny Shipp, on as substitute only a couple of minutes before was denied by a low diving save from Bognor keeper Will Packham, but deep into added on time we scored a deserved equaliser. Some good movement around the edge of the area led to a Caskey pull back from the bye-line and to Danny Shipp sweeping the ball home from just inside the 6 yard area.
