A fantastic game of football and one which could have been closer if Cambridge had taken their chances.  But that's what the game's all about and, at this level, missed chances are often regretted.

It might not have been as bad for the home side if they'd been in the game in the first 20 minutes but they simply didn't get a look in. By the time their danger man Dave Binns was given the opportunity to torment us down the left hand side - which he did on many occasions afterwards - they were already 2-0 down.

We took the lead in the 7th minute when Darren Caskey slammed home from the spot after Wayne Purser was brought down as he nicked the ball away from defender and keeper. Within 10 minutes it was 2-0 after a string of passes ending in a Lee Elam cross and a brave Wayne Purser header, jumping in front of Kirk Jackson who looked set to nod goalwards himself, which bounced away from keeper Alan Calton. Then followed a series of great saves from Ashley Bayes, two from Binns in the 24th and 26th minute and again near the interval, this time saving from Dave Sadler when a goal looked almost certain.

Bayes saved from a similar situation on the hour,  this time from defender Matt Langston but could only watch when, in the 77th minute Binns rushed in like an exocet to make contact with a far post cross and who made his frustration clear after the ball crashed into the advertising hoardings behind the goal. With a little over 10 minutes to go we sealed the victory with a superb header from Kirk Jackson from 6 yards after another fine passing movement and pin-point cross from Elam.

A great advert for football and a great result against a very useful side.
