Match Report by Rob Monger
Yours truly arrived ten minutes after kick off and although initially pleased that no goals had been scored in that time, by the interval I was wishing that the reverse was true. We had, apparently - like the previous Saturday - had much of the game and had several good chances, but after 15 minutes the game settled and the home side began to exert a little more control. A mazy run in the 21st minute by Lee Togwell ended with a shot which tested Collier, but on 32 minutes Chalfont took the lead when a Jamie Cochran shot after an unstoppable run along the bye-line by Jason Sinclair Menzies just sneaked over the line before it was hooked away.
Chalfont had further chances early on in the second half. Adam Bunce headed across goal and just wide from a Rene Barriteau cross in the 56th minute and Collier tipped over superbly from a close range Cochrane effort. Suddenly, though, we finally began to click and we got a deserved equaliser - involving a small slice of luck - when a Charlie Bull volley from 20 yards took a wicked deflection off a defender leaving keeper Doug McKechnie helpless. Danny Heale got a cross in to a running in Billy Drake in the 72nd minute after some fancy play on the edge of the area but a timely defenders boot cleared the danger. Ten minutes later a long range effort from Heale looped over McKechnie and came back off the top of the crossbar, but our winner came two minutes later from perhaps the best move of the match. Collier threw the ball out to Heale who layed off to Bull who in turn sent Nicky Cowley down the left. Billy Drake challenged for Cowley's cross and was quickest to react to poke the ball home from 6 yards. Although seemingly comfortable for the last ten minutes or so, Chalfont were never out of the game, and nearly forced the game into extra time in the final minute when Glen Golby let a long ball go over his head and let in Barry Brosnan whose frustration was visible as he eventually shot into the side netting.
